Well the 2008 www.handmadebicycleshow.com is now behind us and I think I'm finally recovered. It was a great show and as usual I'd have to say the best part is talking with customers and seeing all the other builders. I saw some of my customers that I never thought I'd ever meet face to face and of course all the builders were there except the great Nic Schmidt of Capital Bicycles whom I was very disappointed I didn't get to see (love ya Nic).
My good friend Dave Kirk of www.kirkframeworks.com and I shared a booth and this year Dave won best fillet frame of show. No surprise to me. As far as I'm concerned when it comes to lugs and fillets Dave is the best and he should win the prize every year.
Our booth was right across from Mike DeSalvo and Sacha White both of whom I have a very good relationship with. We had a lot of fun and tried to talk little shop when we had a chance but there weren't too many opportunities thanks to the higher than expected turnout.
I enjoyed the breakfast of champions with a few of the guys, my frame building hero's, icons like Richard Sachs and Peter Weigle.
For those of you that haven't made it to a show yet book your flights now. We learned this year that the show is much bigger than the host city. Less than 50% of the people that came to our booth were from Portland. This show is the only place in the world that you will see this much Framebuilding talent in one place at one time. If you're an aficionado it's a event you cannot afford to miss.
Here is a video.
Here are a few pictures. Next year the Show will be in Indy and I am really looking forward to it. Indy is a beautiful city with lots things to do and see and I'm sure the show will be another great success.
